EPA Certified Wood Stoves
All new EPA approved wood stoves and inserts have a secondary burn chamber. That means that during the burn of the initial fuel source, heat is released along with a combustable gas. Normaly that gas would exit out the chimney, however with the advent of the secondary burn chamber, oxygen is introduced back into the stove typically through stainless steel tubes which reignite the gases creating more heat and fewer emissions. These are a couple photos of our in-store Jotul Rangeley showing off.

A wood stove is a freestanding unit that essentially go anywhere in your home as long as you meet proper clearances to the walls and have non-combustible hearth protection. These units come in steel, cast iron, or soap stone. A wood stove chimney can be vented up through the home, or go out the wall and up along side the exterior wall in some cases.
